Particle Size Analysis (Laser Diffraction) @ Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) PMBRC

Institution Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) PMBRC
County Waterford
Technique Category Particle Size Analysis
Technique Particle Size Analysis (Laser Diffraction)

Basic Capabilities

Measures the particle size of suspended solids in a liquid or of emulsions. 0.02 - 2000 micron particle size range

Equipment Make Malvern
Equipment Model Mastersizer 2000 (liquid unit)

Advantage of Technique/Equipment

Useful for the analysis of small quantities or high potency materials. For more details see: web-link

Limitations of Technique/Equipment Analysis time can be slow, significant method development may be needed depending on sample. Our Mastersizer 2000 cannot test powders unless suspended in a liquid. We do have a Mastersizer S for this however.

Other Details

Containment Have used this for the analysis of high potency materials. A paste of the high potency material can be prepared and this minimises potential for becoming airborne
