Overview of SEAM Research Center

Since its inception in 2009, the South Eastern Applied Materials (SEAM) Research Center based within Waterford Institute of Technology has been proactively engaged in assisting industries in the South and South Eastern Region of Ireland and beyond.  SEAM, funded by Enterprise Ireland under the Applied Research Enhancement Programme, is providing technical and scientific support to industries on process and product development related issues utilizing its niche technologies (X-ray Microtomography, Finite Element Modeling & Microwave processing) and material research capabilities. SEAM’s aim is to give access to niche technology and expertise to companies seeking to remain competitive.
SEAM offers direct consultancy, characterisation, failure analysis and strategic research partnership programs (short, medium and long term) and is currently serving wide ranging sectors including medical devices, orthopaedics, pharmaceuticals, precision engineering, electronics, etc.  SEAM has worked with more than 40 industries and has forged strong collaborative links with several well established multinational companies like Boston Scientific, Teva Pharamceuticals, Bausch & Lomb, Stryker orthopedics, Nypro Health care, Beru Borg Warner and indigeneous companies like Schivo precision, Mincon International, ESB International, etc.,  

SEAM is currently involved in a number of Industrial research projects, including innovation vouchers, innovation partnerships and EU Research for the benefit of SMEs. All of these projects are industrially focused and aimed at the research needs of our customers.
The SEAM team is being led by Dr. Ramesh Raghavendra who has decade of experience each in both industry and academic environments and is fully committed to make SEAM-WIT a potential hub for delivering innovation to industries. He is being ably supported by highly skilled applied researchers who understand the technology needs of the companies as well as the importance of delivering the projects on schedules.

SEAM fosters a strong customer-centric culture with a mission of establishing long term business relationships with its customers. Through realization of this mission, SEAM is now becoming an integral part of R & D activities of many multinational companies in Ireland, as well as aiding small and medium sized enterprises in their transition from a purely manufacturing base into realm of research and development.
