The Pharmaceutical and Molecular Biotechnology Research Centre (PMBRC) is an applied research centre which aims to support the sustainable growth of the pharmaceutical and healthcare industry in the south east of Ireland. Situated in the heart of the region on the Waterford Institute of Technology campus, the centre seeks to stimulate research and innovation, allowing companies to embed R&D into their activities. One of 13 Enterprise Ireland Applied Research Enhancement (ARE) centres, the PMBRC consists of a 700 m2 state-of-the-art facility with over 30 highly-trained research personnel. The PMBRC has established links with national and international partners in industry, academia and medical care institutions. The PMBRC carries out research in a number of different areas including drug delivery, pharmaceutical analysis, sensor technologies, biomedical science and molecular biotechnology.

Partnership with the regional and national pharmaceutical and healthcare industry is at the core of the PMBRC’s activities. The centre is involved in collaborative projects with industry ranging from large-scale research projects to short term feasibility studies and contract analysis. The PMBRC has a proven track record in attracting funding from national and international sources.
